an angry birds halloween

This year, we had an angry birds themed Halloween at the Hawkins house.  If you know Will, you know how much he LOVES to play games on the iPad.  And one of his favorites has always been angry birds.  So because the girls aren't old enough to express an opinion on their costume choice quite yet, we let Will pick his, and I made the girls' costumes to match.  Will chose the red angry bird, so obviously, the girls had to be the little green piggies! I had so much fun making their outfits.  I was even originally planning to make the rest of us shirts with faces of the other angry birds.  And then I remembered that I don't have enough spare time for that.

Here's sweet Will modeling his costume on one of our practice days.  The girls weren't big fans of the tutus I made them at first, so even though it meant shedding green glitter all over the house, we had a couple of practice runs to get them used to wearing the costumes.

And then came the big day.  We got ready...

tutus, check.  headbands, check.  piggie shirts, check.

The girls even loved their trick-or-treat bags, which they happily called their purses.

And of course, Will was always ready.

And then.  We tried to take a picture of all three kids together.  And the wheels came off.

HOT MESS piggies emerged, and they never really recovered.

So I'm not sure if the horror of taking pictures was just insurmountable for my sweet ladies, or if they would have rejected trick-or-treating anyway.  But we tried to leave with the whole crew after pictures, and the girls were just NOT.HAVING.IT.  It should be mentioned that in the past month, the girls have developed a completely unwarranted and irrational fear of our cat.  This is our former housecat, who now lives outside, weighs in at about 6 pounds, and with the exception of mice, bugs, and small rodents, wouldn't hurt anyone.  Nevertheless...anytime we go outside, whether the cat is around or not, Caroline and Emily start yelling CAT!!! in complete terror.  Sometimes they get over it, and sometimes not.  So Halloween was one of the nights that they just couldn't get over the cat fear, plus were already out of sorts from pictures.  And the idea of taking them to meet strangers just seemed like the worst plan ever.  So my sweet parents stayed home with the girls and passed out candy while the rest of us had a blast trick-or-treating. This was the first year that Will really got it, and once he realized the candy reward potential, he was ALL about trick-or-treating.  He was so sweet, and even kept the neighbors laughing by reporting to several of the houses exactly how many pieces of candy he had collected.  We had a great time, and apparently with the impending doom of trick-or-treating out of the picture, the girls had a delightful evening as well.

They played...

They hugged...

They danced...

...and they discussed very important piggie business.

 When we got home, Will counted his candy and enjoyed a few pieces.

We even put together an angry birds puzzle from Nana...while dressed as an angry bird.  What could be better than that?

Happy Halloween!!

fall fun days

Since I typically am using both of my hands to wrangle tiny people these days, I don't always bring a camera when we do stuff.  Because I rely on my phone for most of our day to day pics, I thought I should upload some of my phone pics to document them on the blog.  So these are a little random...but then again, so are most of our days.  :)

Girls morning while Will was a preschool.

Enjoying fall weather at the playground!

We've finally accepted grass as an acceptable place to walk!!

Late night fun with Will after an Aggie game

Sometimes life is just too much and you totally fall asleep with your baby boom box in your hand.

The girls wandered away from me one afternoon, and I found them like this!
{Will had pulled the cushion off their loveseat so they could climb up.}

Sweet note from Will's teacher!

Piggies!  {Caroline}

Will and Matt planted some fall flowers around our tree.

Sweet Em ran full speed under my legs and into the kitchen drawers while I was making lunch...but she's still smiling!

The girls fight over who gets to wear this fireman coat.  Caroline won on this particular occasion.

You can stand at the lego table...

Or you can FLY!  {Caroline's preferred method of reaching legos}

Sorry for the blurry self-pic...I love my snuggles with Emmie!

And here are a few actual camera pics from yesterday, when I tried to take pictures of the girls while Will was at school.  As usual, they weren't at all interested in taking pictures, but I love their little dresses, so I'll take what I can get!

The girls love coloring now, and they call crayons their "bebes."

Our days are always loud, a little crazy, and lots of fun!

pumpkins!

Fall is here!  We are loving the cooler weather and have been taking lots of walks around the neighborhood, playing outside, and decorating for fall.  This week, we headed to the arboretum with Mimi and Duke to check out the pumpkin patch.  It was lots of fun, and the kids loved running around in the pumpkins.  They did not, however, really love sitting still for pictures.  So while I would love to say that we took advantage of the amazing decorations and got some great pumpkin pictures....that would certainly be an exaggeration.  But we did have lots of fun!

So....this is probably the best one of all three kids.  Betcha can't wait to see the rest now, huh?  ;)

Caroline finally just dropped out of the bottom of the pics, as she kept squirming until I let her go.

3 out of 5 looking at the camera...not bad for this crew!

Caroline still loving it...

And this one just cracks me up because I have no idea what is so horrifying to the girls, but clearly Will is oblivious too!

My best pumpkin model

Miss Caroline, not impressed...

Emily was pretty attached to this little bitty gourd thing...carried it around all morning.

Favorite activity for the girls...throwing hay!

Favorite for Will....running through the maze!

Not a great pic, but I like Emily's sweet smile and love that they are all hanging out with Duke!

The girls love climbing into and sitting on big chairs.

I love this sweet one of Mimi and Caroline.  Caroline LOVES her Mimi!

Love these guys!!

So impressed with the arboretum this year.  It's only my fourth year to go during the fall, but I think the decorations are the best ever.  We had a great time playing in the pumpkins!
